Student Checklists
Below are photographs of our daily and weekly checklists along with an example of a student sheet below those that helps them keep track of their progress. The students plan out what they need to complete for the day based on what activities they/we have going on. I let them know how many times I plan on pulling them individually or for small groups to help them gauge their day. Many of these items are to be completed electronically. The students have the option of completing them in a manner of their choosing, just as long as they upload them to the appropriate spot i.e. My Big Campus discussion board, Edmodo, stixy, etc...
1-Some items are due daily i.e. math responses, math/reading goals, etc...
2-Some items are due weekly, and these are usually routines that we work on every week ie. artful thinking, stixy, vertical reading group, etc...
3-Some items are due over time such as their projects, challenges, or personal goals.
Student Example:
Student A:
-This student who has band and is a member of the school Show Choir might get pulled out of the classroom multiple times during a certain day-lets say Monday- along with knowing that they have to meet with their group to work on their science/social studies project and work with me individually and/or small groups. That student would make sure that they get their daily items done first before working on their weekly items.
Student B:
-This student might not have band at all or meet with any of their clubs on Monday, and their project might have already been completed and checked by me. This student can schedule their day however they would like, keeping in mind that I will pull them at certain points. They have much more freedom to schedule their day based on the checklist below.
The students know that they should work around 20-30 minutes on each item before moving onto something else. Students will routinely ask for more time on one thing or work on items at home for homework without having to be prompted to because they know when the work is due.
